Using the Forward Day by Day app for the offices today. As I said Noon Day Prayer, I was delighted to see the app selected Psalm 126 (there are 3 options for the Psalm in Noon Day Prayer). As I have said on here before, this was the Psalm we said over and over at St. Patrick’s in Long Beach after Katrina, awaiting that day when we could offer our shouts of joy. I have prayed it every day since Michael for all the affected churches.
Psalm 126 In convertend
When the LORD restored the fortunes of Zion, *
then were we like those who dream.
Then was our mouth filled with laughter, *
and our tongue with shouts of joy.
Then they said among the nations, *
“The LORD has done great things for them.”
The LORD has done great things for us, *
and we are glad indeed.
Restore our fortunes, O LORD, *
like the watercourses of the Negev.
Those who sowed with tears *
will reap with songs of joy.
Those who go out weeping, carrying the seed, *
will come again with joy, shouldering their sheaves.
quick question: i like using the actual prayer book and looking up the readings in my Bible, but still have trouble figuring out which readings are correct. I also use the printed version of Day by Day. Are the readings listed on the page with the daily devotion the scripture we’re to use with the Daily Office?
(I am sorry if you’ve explained this already.)
Yes the readings in the printed Day by Day are the assigned office readings for the day. This Sunday I’m going to talk more about lectionary so you will also be able to use bcp for that if prefer.
