Breaking up is hard to do

I apologize for my absence on the blog. The last month has been pretty intense. I have struggled to find the words to show my deep appreciation for the people of St. Paul’s Delray Beach. Our sendoff has been spectacular; everything I could have ever wanted and far more. From a very special final dinner with the vestry that included sendoff prayers with the delightful and inspiring Seekers group, to an amazing staff dinner/celebration at the Colony Beach club, to a wonderful reception attended by well over 140 St. Paul’s parishioners at Jim and Ellen Walton’s house, to my final 3 services, each with special moments during and at dinner or receptions after. The people of this parish gifted us with an amazing purse which will help SO much during our time of uncertainty and searching, but far more than that they have gifted us with an incredible display of love, prayer, laughter and tears.

I will miss St. Paul’s deeply and the Delray Beach area as well. We stayed longer than we ever thought we would and have cherished every moment. We leave on Thursday and will update folks as to what is going on in our journey. And….I should have a LOT of time to keep the blog posts coming, so stay tuned. If enough folks would like the daily prayer blog back, please just comment on this post and I will respond soon.

I leave you with the words from an old Elton John song (lyrics by Bernie Taupin. duh). It’s from the Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy album….

Curtains”

I used to know this old scarecrow

He was my song, my joy and sorrow

Cast alone between the furrows

Of a field no longer sown by anyone

I held a dandelion

That said the time had come

To leave upon the wind

Not to return

When summer burned the earth again

Cultivate the freshest flower

This garden ever grew

Beneath these branches

I once wrote such childish words for you

But that’s okay

There’s treasure children always seek to find

And just like us

You must have had

A once upon a time
